Signatures tend to end up being either:

1) spam

2) political ideals

3) religious ideals

4) a scream for attention

5) any combination of the above

And I feel sorry for you - not - but I don't care about any of them. If I wanna know your ideals I'll send you a PM.

Then limit it to such and such amount of characters, and only one line.  even that would be better than nothing.

I'm supposed to sign my posts with "-Orodum " according to flaming ninja rules, but I usually forget to.

I'm tempted to create bannors anyway, even though I don't see any demand for them.

Banner sigs were very popular on the GC2 (where i am reading and posting from) side of the SD fence for a long time. Many folks used the FF addon Clippings to easily store and implent their text lines for whatever sig they may require.

I think banner sigs have their place and am working on 1 for Clan Tyranny once the clan system is up and running, great way to attract more people to your clan, or in GC2's case your empire.

Now...ready your Adblock Plus........

Personally, signatures never really seemed like a needed idea to me. Having the same message under everything you write doesn't really seem to achieve something that the Avatar fails to achieve.

Having said that, I'd rent mine out to Google and make a small amount of money every time I posted.

Anything to work for Google, eh Don?

Just messing with ya.

Yes, good luck with that $2,83 a year.

Thanks, it'll be much better than $0.00 a year you'll make

Haha, just kidding.

I don't think we need signatures on the forums, as they would just create longer posts and thus make us wait even longer for page loads while fiddling with the forums. In the end, they really achieve next to nothing.

Thats a rather inflammatory comment, considering i did not attack you in anyway.

What makes you ask that? My wife and son are very curious.

In the end, they really achieve next to nothing.

I must disagree. With the empires in GC2 sigs in posts made speading the word of your empire much easier. Gaining new mebers is not an eay thing, and the advertising that the banners give for your empire...or as in the case fopr Demigod, your Clan may very well help gian more players for you to be associated with.

Though, that being said, i don't think siga are needed, just that they can be helpful, if folks dont like em, i dont have issue with that.

Edited since my original reply is actually here...i'll let those comments stand since that was my first reaction.

The one thing automatic signatures could provide is useful information as to the site that the response is coming from.

With the intermixing of various forums across 12 different forum sites there exists a wide range of different interests. Some of these interests are compatible enough that it probably doesn't matter. After all someone that plays GalCiv2 versus Sins versus Demigod would probably still be considered a "gamer" even though these are 3 totally different and often separate genre’s.

But the views, interests and disposition of folks from such disparate sites as Joe User, WinCustomize and any of the game site are not nearly as compatible as gamers that differ in whether their preference is TBS, RTS, or MMO.

Having a signature *generated by the originating site itself* could identify someone that may have stumbled upon a topic totally unrelated to their normal interest and so a stupid response would more likely be simply ignored instead of possibly flamed. Also a signature generated by the site would be controlled and limited by SD and so none of the above noted objections would apply.

There are a number of standardized signatures that have been developed and used on the GalCiv2 site but having to paste in a snippet of text or a link to an image in every reply you make can get tiresome and inevitably people stop using it.

I think a tasteful and limited signature that gives someone a clue as to where a person’s interests lie is a useful piece of information and would be a useful function for the forum to provide.
