The only signature I ever wanted to have is a one-liner IRC quote that's quite amusing when taken out of context. But then, I'm mostly a goof and tend to act like it unless I really need to be serious so a humorous signature like that is perfect for me but would probably annoy others.

I can see a small banner or something being ok, but the problem is that it won't stop there.  I'm sure we've seen some of the sigs that people are manually putting into their posts.  Some are small and unobtrusive, but there are those that can get annoying the first time you see them.  Huge fonts and pictures in the sig with little content in the post.  Some of these posts just have a single smiley and the huge spam signature.  Over and over.  Pointless.

In the end, they really achieve next to nothing.

BTW speaking of forum issues, what's up with this thread?

When viewed from at least the GalCiv2 site this thread is currently listed as having only 3 replies. When you click on the thread it's obvious that there's more than three replies but only the first page is shown and there is no link to see the second page.

In order to see the second page I had to manually append /page/2 to the threads url.

This is the first I've seen of this problem and given that this reply is on the 2nd page I'm not even sure that it's even been seen.

I'll check to see if the same thing is occuring from other sites and if so I'll open up another forum issue thread regarding the problem.

Over and over. Pointless.

LAMO...I get this.

Nice...very funny.

Problem is known, and has been reported in the same topic that announced the forum updates (which obviously went a bit wrong). Sadly that topic itself has the problem and I saw no reply for a day, then suddenly there were 4 pages of posts in it, including about 4 of the same posts of mine.

Thats a rather inflammatory comment, considering i did not attack you in anyway.

You subjected me to an advertisement on a site that I pay to have no ads on. Suffer the consequences spammmer.

I think a tasteful and limited signature that gives someone a clue as to where a person’s interests lie is a useful piece of information and would be a useful function for the forum to provide.

An ad is an ad. I could care less what your interests are. If I cared I would ask.

I come to wincustomize for skinning info. I couldn't give 2 poops about the gaming forums.

Which site is it that you pay for?

Paying for a piece of software does not constitute paying for the user site that happens to accompany and support it. We’ve all paid for software of one kind or another but I for one realize that these forums are not something that we pay for or have any right to demand, they are simply something that Stardock provides out of the goodness of their heart.

Perhaps Brad might have a comment or two about what it is that you pay for and what it is that you don't. From my experience he's happily refunded money to folks that seem to think something is *owed* to them.

Nice.

See what I mean about people with a different disposition. I'm sure that you are not representative of the typical WC denizen since I'm sure most are perfectly reasonable and pleasant people. However there are enough like you that cause the forum cross posting experience to be less than desirable. That’s why folks from *all* sites; JU, WC, GC2, Sins, Demigod, Elemental, etc. have expressed the desire to limit cross site posting. However, again this is something that we have no right to demand and it’s been made clear that this is something that will continue and so I will continue to respectfully request in appropriate topics for some means of identifying the site from which someone posts.

However in your case no further identification is necessary since you’ve clearly identified yourself as an asshole, suitable only to be ignored.

mumblefratz,

where in my post did I personally attack you or call you a name? Like you did to me.

and I subscribe to Wincustomize to prevent advertisements. Get better informed before attacking someone next time.

Signatures are the digital equivelant of telemarketing. Prepare to be treated the same.

It says alot about you that you automatically took my post in a nasty way because I didn't use a smilie.

Night Train

Suffer the consequences spammmer.

Doesn't exactly stack up to 'asshole,' though.

It had nothing to do with using or not using a smilie. It had everything to do with what you said and the way that you said it.

I could care less what your interests are. If I cared I would ask.

... I couldn't give 2 poops about the gaming forums.

Where I grew up this is merely a thinly veiled way of saying f_ you and f_ the horse you rode in on. I simply chose to respond in a not so thinly veiled manner.

I also took exception to calling a well respected long term member of the GC2 forums that also happens to be a personal friend, a spammer.

In any case I stand by my comment.

where I grew up it meant that I don't care what your interests are. But then again, I didn't take the short bus to school so I understand you not being able to read and comprehend.

Geez, lay off of people, Night Train. We don't need people trying to be offensive over every little thing they can be.
on Jun 03, 2009

Mmm, back to the topic.

I don't think that a banner telling users where someone had come from would reduce flaming by any measurable amount. The fact is, some people are assholes and get their kicks off of acting as such.

Also, I think we all know that if signatures are given, you will see this within a few minutes of implementation.

*_1*~~~*!! SpAmMeR'sNaMeHerE))!+!+_!+ ~~~~!!!!&******

Just imagine that on every post. Every. Single. Post.

Well thats subjective. I would have thought with a member number as low as yours you would be familiar with how SD shares forums across its sites. I did not post on WC, as you may have worked out by now, so i subjected you to nothing other than the wide world of the internet.

As for spammer...iv'e been called worse. The fact you got riled over a banner add for my GC2 empire shows how little of life you must really enjoy.

I feel sad for you.
